■Evacuation Shelters for Typhoons,Heavy Rain,and Other Disasters

　Evacuation shelters are divided into shelters managed by the city and shelters managed by local communities. Each shelter is designated either as a Designated Emergency Evacuation Site or as both a Designated Emergency Evacuation Site and a Designated Evacuation Shelter.

【Designated Emergency Evacuation Site】

　An evacuation site where people can urgently take shelter from imminent disaster risks,such as typhoons or sudden heavy rain.

【Designated Evacuation Shelter】

　A shelter where disaster victims can stay and live temporarily when their homes have been damaged or destroyed.

【Evacuation Shelters Managed by the City】: 22 locations

　Information on opening times and other details will be announced through the city website,the disaster prevention administrative radio system,and the Kumamoto Prefecture Disaster Prevention Information Email Service.

These evacuation shelters are operated by neighborhood associations, voluntary disaster prevention organizations, and other local community organizations.

They may be opened at the discretion of the local community or upon request by the city.

■ Evacuation Sites in the Event of an Earthquake

Immediately after an earthquake occurs, evacuation sites shall be outdoor areas, such as the grounds of elementary and junior high schools. After aftershocks and other related risks have subsided, evacuees should move to indoor facilities.
